Philip

A week later, I stopped by to pick Ciara and Filipa up as planned for my dad’s birthday party in California. Of course, there was a big angry bear called James about to get into his car, but the moment he sees me, he stops and growls at me.

“I know you fucking did this.”

“Did what? I just got here,” I responded calmly, though I am fully aware of what he’s talking about. It’s more fun to play dumb.

“Quit playing dumb with me; you think I don’t know this trip to California is a ploy to get Ciara away from me?”

I chuckled. “You really think Ciara going to California for work and meeting a legend in her field that she has always wanted to meet is a plot? Tell me, what are you afraid of?” I asked, smiling, knowingly messing with his head.

“I am afraid of nothing; I just don’t want you to hurt Ciara any more than you already have.”

I burst into laughter. “You really think I hurt Ciara? You are delusional.”

“I have to leave because I can’t stop her; neither can I watch her leave with you,” he retorts.

“Yes, please leave; I assure you Ciara is happier with me than she is with you.”

“Funny.” He feigns a laugh. “I am the one she’s engaged to, not you.”

I seriously want to punch him for reminding me. “Not married, just engaged. Until that status changes to married, she’s fair game. Might I remind you she and I share a child; therefore, we will always be involved.” Yep, I played my ace card.

“We will be married soon,” he said, his fury palpable.

“Like I said, until that day, she’s fair game.”

“Fuck you, Phillip; I will not get into a brawl with you because of Ciara, but rest assured, she will be my wife.” He finally gets into his car and speeds away.

I stood there watching him. If only he knew Ciara was screaming my name, just a few hours ago as I pounded into her. And I know she hasn’t been in bed with him since the so-called engagement. Like I said to him, she’s fair game until they are married, if that ever happens. I need to prove to Ciara that I am dependable, and flying around the globe for work doesn’t mean I won’t be there for her, Filipa, and any other child we will have.

Maybe knocking her up again wouldn’t be a bad idea. I was bummed when she told me that our escapades after the wedding did not result in a pregnancy, but I aim to make it happen every chance I get.

I pressed the bell. Filipa opened the door, and I scooped her up in my arms, making her scream with laughter and joy. It never gets old.

Ciara comes down with their suitcases. “I think we are ready. We will be back Sunday night, right? I have a client meeting on Monday morning.”

“Yes, ma’am,” I agree, smiling.

“Be serious Phil, I can’t afford to miss the meeting,” she stated matter-of-factly.
